The Levelland Lobos squad faced-off against the Idalou Wildcats this past Monday night for non-district baseball action where the Lobos were able to overcome a 8-run deficit to win the game 13-9.
Idalou was able to get on the board first after they got four runs to go for them in the top of the first inning making the score 4-0.
The Wildcats kept pouring it on in the top of the second inning after they had three more runs go for them making the score 7-0 in the top of the second.
Finally the Wildcats got another run in the top of the third from a sacrifice fly making the score 8-0 early in the game.
Although they started off the game great, the Lobos weren’t giving up that easy as they got three runs in the bottom of the third inning, after Jake Potter singled on a ground ball to left field to earn a run and Rance Massey doubled on a fly ball to center field to drive in two, making the score 8-3, Levelland trailing.
Levelland added onto their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Jeron Salinas hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a runner making the score 8-4, in the bottom of the fourth. The Lobos were able to gain the lead in the bottom of the fifth after Abram Arteaga, Ian Rivera, Jake Potter and R.J. Mireles all walked and Noah Tienda hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run to make the score 9-8, Levelland leading.
Idalou was able to get one more run in the top of the sixth, it being their last after a single on a hard ground ball to right field drove in a runner to tie the game.
Although the Wildcats got their last run in the top of the sixth, Levelland wasn’t done with their great comeback as Lobos Salinas laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run and Potter hit a single, scoring two runs and an error scored another run giving Levelland the big comeback win after Idalou couldn’t do anything in the top of the seventh inning.
Rivera earned the win for the Lobos as he gave up three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none in the game. Boston Winfield started on the mound for the Lobos as he gave up eight hits and seven runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out two and walking three.
The Lobos accumulated 11 hits throughout the game as Potter drove the middle of the lineup, leading Levelland with three runs batted in. Mireles, Massey, Gage Potter and Jake Potter each had two hits for the Lobos. The team had a strong eye at the plate as they had 12 walks in the game while getting nine stolen bases throughout the game.
The Levelland Lobos progress to 3-3 on the season as they get ready to take on the Lubbock Christian Eagles today at home.
