Ropes Eagles continue historic playoff run

The Ropes Eagles took on the Reagan County Owls this past Friday night in a rematch at Lamesa High School for the Regional Finals round of the playoffs where the Eagles won again, this time 63-40, moving onto the State Semi-Finals and making school history.

Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Lane Jackson also earned his 500th career win with the Eagles on their historic night.

Ropes was off to a great start in the game as they were up 10-0 at one points in the game in the first quarter before the Owls had to call a timeout to slow the momentum. It worked a little bit though as Ropes won the quarter 17-8, taking a nine point lead going into the second quarter.

The second quarter was Reagan County as they were able to get crucial shots from their main scorer as the Owls won the second quarter 14-9, making the score 26-22, Ropes still leading.

That was the closest the score ever got as the Eagles after the halftime break never looked back from their lead.

The leading scorer at the half was Eagle Brennan Bearden with nine points, all from three-pointer range.

In the third quarter the Eagles were back on track with their tough offense as they scored 17 more points while they held the Owls to just seven, extending their lead by another 10 points heading into the fourth.

By the fourth quarter came around, Ropes was on fire that couldn’t be stopped as they had their highest scoring quarter in the final quarter, outscoring Reagan County 20-11 and taking the big 63-40 win moving onto the State Semi-Finals round in Playoffs.

The leading scorer for the Eagles was Kade Franklin, as he was a force in the paint getting 21 points, getting 18 of his points from inside the paint. Cutter Stumbo had 13 points, Bearden finished with nine, both Reese Williams and Branson Simental had seven points a piece and Bode Franklin finished with six points in their contest.

The Ropes Eagles go up to 19-7 on the season as they took on the Meyer Ravens this past Tuesday night at Abilene Christian University for their State Semi-Finals round of playoffs. The Meyer Ravens went into the game with an overall record of 35-3 ranked #6 in state (via Maxpreps) as the Ropes Eagles went into the game ranked #5 (via Maxpreps).
