Allah? Buddha? Krishna? I once heard it said that studies have found most people pray, but who are we praying to? Well, a woman who struggled with becoming pregnant, before finally having one child, states in her autobiography that in her deepest, darkest moments, she prayed to “the god, goddess or unicorn of the Holy Spirit to nourish her embryo, now begging the universe to keep another fragile soul alive.”
That’s super sad because this statement shows that this woman has some knowledge of Christianity and therefore some knowledge of the one true God. So, why not pray to Him instead!
Afterall, the Bible does say: … if you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him? And as reading the Bible makes it pretty clear just how powerful and how loving God is, why would anyone who desperately wants something pretend that they don’t know who the one and only God is?
Praying to this God doesn’t guarantee that we’ll always get what we want, but when we do pray, even if we don’t receive what we have asked for, we can be sure that our prayers have been heard and that our prayers have been answered in the way that they should be, even if not in the way that we wanted them to be. So, instead of praying to a god or a goddess or a unicorn’s Holy Spirit, pray to Jesus instead, resting in the knowledge that you’ll get what you need even if not what you hoped for. Matthew 7:11
