...And God heard...

No one knew how far Jason had fallen, not really. On the outside, he still showed up, still smiled when expected, and still said, “I’m fine,” when asked. But inside, he was exhausted from holding it all together. His life felt like a boat with a hundred tiny holes, and no matter how fast he bailed out the water, he kept sinking.

That’s when he hit bottom, a very good thing because, from there, the only way he could go was up. It didn’t happen in a dramatic collapse. It came in a quiet moment, alone on the back porch as the sun dipped behind the trees. The silence was too loud. And for the first time in years, Jason whispered a desperate prayer. It was not polished, nor was it perfect, just real: “God, I need help.”

And God heard, just as He said He would.

“This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” 1 John 5:14 (MEV) In that moment, Jason didn’t just experience relief; he encountered a rescue. It was not a quick fix, but the beginning of healing; the kind that comes from being found by the One who never stopped searching. Like the lost sheep in Jesus’ story, Jason was carried home by a Shepherd who knew the way. But rescue wasn’t the end.

For years, Jason had believed he had to be the one in control. He managed his life like a courtroom, where he was both judge and jury. But slowly, he began to see the truth: he wasn’t qualified to hold that gavel. He had to recuse himself from the bench. That was the most challenging part: surrendering control, letting go of pride, and admitting that he didn’t have all the answers. When he did, peace began to settle over him.

In place of the chaos came a strange, unfamiliar feeling: a sense of security. It was not the kind that comes from having a plan or being praised, but the kind that comes from being loved unconditionally. Jason realized he was held, not because he was strong, but because God was.

God rescues us from where we’ve wandered. He invites us to step down from the throne we were never meant to sit on, and He secures us with a love that never lets go.

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2 (NIV) Call to Him and He will hear

you:

“Lord, thank You for rescuing me when I could not rescue myself.

Forgive me for the times I tried to take control, thinking I knew best. Help me to humbly step aside and let You take Your rightful place in my life. Secure my heart in Your love, Your truth, and Your promises. I trust Y o u to lead, to protect, and to complete the work You’ve started in me. You are my refuge, my strength, and my salvation. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
