Lady Cats beat Bovina, 51-41, improve to 2-0

The Smyer Lady Cats basketball team played host to the Bovina Fillies this past Tuesday, beating them 51-41.

Leading the Lady Cats to the win was sophomore Ellie Nelson, who was their leading scorer with 24 points on the night.

Smyer moves to 2-0 on the young season with the win, but the Lady Cats Head Coach Todd Nichols acknowledged it didn’t exactly come easy.

“We had a bit of a rough shooting night and struggled offensively, but we put things together when we needed to and grinded out a win in the end,” Nichols said.

Coach Nichols also noted that his team is only going to improve as they get more games and experience under their belt as the season progresses.

They’ll have a week to learn from and reflect on their win against Bovina before getting back in action against the Olton Fillies on Tuesday at home at 6:30 p.m.
