The #7 ranked Ropes Eagles played host to the Smyer Bobcats for a district basketball matchup this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Eagles winning 62-16.
The win marks the Eagles’ seventh straight and improves them to 21-3 overall and 8-1 in district play, which ties them for first in the 2A District 5 standings.
“I was proud of our guy’s defensive effort and execution. We are looking to continue improving and building off this win,” Eagles Head Basketball Coach Cameron Copley said.
Not only did they get it done defensively, but also offensively, led by Kade Franklin with 23 points behind a 4/6 free throw effort.
Other Eagles scorers included Malikai Mendez with nine points, Cutter Stumbo with eight points, Cason Kucel with seven points, Kaden Riker, Bryce Hiler and Kolter Dockery all with four points, Zayden Pittman with two points and Branson Simental with one point.
On the Bobcats side of things, scorers included Austin Martinez with 11 points, Sebastian Rodriguez with three points and Grady Pastusek with two points.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 3-19 overall and 0-10 in district play, which puts them last in the 2A District 5 standings.
Following the game, the Bobcats will enjoy a bye over the weekend, meanwhile the Eagles host Plains for a matchup that will likely decide the district title.
