Perez enters rarefied air at White Buffalo Invitational

The Levelland High School tennis PACK competed in the White Buffalo Invitational at Snyder High School this past week, bringing home several great finishes, highlighted by Daisy Perez who entered rarefied air at the competition.

In the varsity girls doubles, Kimberly Chavira Campos and Daisy Perez placed fourth, and Isabel Canales and Angelina Rivera won the Consolation Championship.

During the competition, Perez's performance ele vated her into the top 10 in all-time wins for Levelland tennis.

“We knew coming into the week that Daisy had a shot of breaking into the top 10 this week,” Levelland Head Tennis Coach Jeffrey Braziel said. “Even through having to adjust from mixed doubles to girls doubles with a partner she had never played with, she stepped up big and went 2-2 on the day capturing her spot and legacy as one of the 10 winningest players in school history. Daisy has worked tirelessly for four years to keep growing her game. Coach Lawson and I couldn’t be prouder of the player and person she is.”

And along with the big milestone, other noteworthy performances followed as Nathan Ellis placed third in the varsity boys singles.

In the mixed doubles, Zackary Lopez and Daniela Perez-Garcia placed fourth, and Paula Castellanos and Julio Ramos Ortega won the Consolation Championship.

In the varsity boys doubles, Hayden Ewings and Esteban Nieland won the Consolation Championship. And in the junior varsity mixed doubles, Jayden Oli - vas and Jade Baeza placed second.

“This week was a bit of an odd week for us with tournaments on Tuesday and Thursday. We had several varsity players out, and several JV players traveled with varsity. Those simple things can really play with the routine and mess with momentum,” Coach Bra- ziel said. "I am proud of all our players for not letting it bother them. I am especially proud of all our JV kids who played up on varsity this week as they did a great job, many of whom either medal or made medal matches. It shows that there is a bright future for the program as this extremely talented group of seniors graduate in May.”

Following the competition, the PACK will enjoy a weekend off from competition for Spring Break before returning on March 26-27.

Junior varsity competes in the Small School Tournament at Levelland High School, and varsity competes at the All Saints Tournament in Lubbock.
