The Ropes Eagles hosted the Post Antelopes in a district baseball doubleheader this past Monday, resulting in an Eagles sweep after they won both games by a large margin.
In their first matchup, Ropes beat Post 11-1 across five innings, besting them 8-5 in hits, 7-1 in walks and 1-7 in errors committed.
Standouts at the plate included Radley Partington going 2/3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, Maddux Sierra going 2/3 with an RBI, a triple and a run scored, Brayden Hogg going 2/3 with two runs scored, and Garland Higginbotham going 1/3 with an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Cutter Stumbo pitched all five innings, striking out eight batters while only surrendering five hits and an earned run.
In their second matchup, the Eagles beat Post 13-0, behind nine hits and seven walks drawn, and a perfect game from Higginbotham on the mound.
Higginbotham pitched all five innings, striking out four batters while holding Post to a goose egg in the runs, hits and walks columns. His outstanding performance was also supported by an errorfree defensive effort for the Eagles.
“Garland did a great job today. He executed in what he was asked to do, and he hit his spots well today,” Ropes Head Baseball Coach Nathan Flores said. “I’m super proud of his composure towards the end of the game. Everyone knew what was happening and no one wanted to say anything. He knew it; we knew it, and he was still able to stay focused and composed. A lot of credit goes out to our defense today as well. It was a team effort, and we are all proud of Garland’s accomplishment today.”
It also helps that he had nine runs of support behind him, which were powered by numerous great days at the plate.
Standouts included Sierra going 1/3 with two RBI’s, two runs scored, a triple and a walk, Kade Franklin going 2/4 with two RBI’s and a run scored, Branson Simental going 2/4 with two RBI’s, two runs scored and two stolen bases, Cason Kucel going 2/4 with two runs scored, double and an RBI, Elijah Flores going 1/3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk, and Jaivyth Cruz going 1/3 with two runs scored, a double, a stolen base and a walk.
Following the pair of wins, the Eagles improve to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in district play. They’ll return to action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. on the road against Seagraves.
