Levelland track & field qualifies seven for Area Meet

The Levelland Lobos and Loboettes track & field programs competed at the 4A District 5 Championship Meet at Lowrey Field in Lubbock this past Wednesday and Thursday, and several individuals put together noteworthy performances.

Saul Hernandez shined for Levelland at the meet, winning the District Championship in the boys 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:38.46. He would also finish as the District Runner-Up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.14.

In the boys pole vault, Adden Luna finished as the District Runner-Up with a vault of 10’. In the girls shot put, Sydnii Joyce finished as the District Runner-Up with a throw of 33’-3.50”.

In the girls 4x200-meter relay, the Loboettes team of Analiya Avitia, Darlene Pina, Hannah Murillo and Zanity Sanchez placed fourth with a time of 1:54.39.

That Loboettes relay team, Hernandez, Luna and Joyce all qualified for the 4A Area Championship Meet on April 17 at the Abilene ISD Track Annex.

And while they didn’t qualify for the Area Meet, several more individuals still posted great times and marks at the District Meet.

In the boys 4x100-meter relay, the Lobos relay of Bentley Sepulbeda, Matthew Guillen, Josh Diaz and Bryson Golightly placed fifth with a time of 44.56.

In the girls 4x100-meter relay, the Loboettes relay of Jurney Hernandez, Deshawrenea Dent, Patience Pritcheet and Analiya Avitia placed sixth with a time of 53.32.

In the girls 800-meter run, Xiomara Marquez placed 10th with a time of 3:03.00, and in the boys 100-meter dash, Bryson Golightly placed ninth with a time of 11.26.

In the boys 4x200-meter relay, the Lobos team of Darren Wilson, Josh Diaz, Ayden Gutierrez and Guadalupe Leyva placed sixth with a time of 1:34.64.

In the girls 400-meter dash, Hannah Murillo placed ninth with a time of 1:06.09, and in the girls 200-meter dash, Zanity Sanchez placed ninth with a time of 27.54.

In the girls 1,600-meter run, Khole Roberts placed eighth with a time of 6:22.41.

In the boys 4x400-meter relay, the Lobos team of Rene Franco, Angel Miranda, Ayden Gutierrez and Guadalupe Leyva placed sixth with a time of 3:37.49.

In the girls 300-meter hurdles, Jurney Hernandez placed 10th with a time of 55.05, and in the girls long jump, Presley Smith placed seventh with a jump of 14’10.25”.

In the boys long jump, Adrian Diaz placed sixth with a jump of 19’-10.50” and Bryson Golightly placed ninth with a jump of 19’6.50”.

In the girls triple jump, Zanity Sanchez placed seventh with a jump of 32’-2” and Presley Smith placed eighth with a jump of 31’-6.25”.

In the girls high jump, Hannah Murillo placed sixth with a jump of 4’-8” and Lola Potter placed 10th with a jump of 4’-4”. In the boys high jump, Adrian Diaz placed 10th with a jump of 5’-6”.

In the boys shot put, Adan Perez placed eighth with a throw of 42’-5.50” and in the girls discus throw, Natalia Vargas placed sixth with a throw of 85’-8”.

The Lobos finished sixth in the team standings with 35 points scored at the meet. “I feel like my guys competed well,” Lobos Head Track & Field Coach Pete Richardson said. “It was the first time my 4x100m relay team was actually healthy, so we kind of had a few mixed ups. We have Saul Hernandez and Adden Luna both advancing to the area Track Meet. So, I’m looking forward to that. I’m thankful to get to coach these kids.”

On the Loboettes side of things, they finished sixth in the team standings with 20 points scored at the meet.

“I felt like the girls competed well,” Loboettes Head Track & Field Coach Justin Turner said. “We had a lot of personal records across the board, and each meet we’ve gotten better.”
