The South Plains College track & field program competed at the NJCAA Division 1 Track & Field National Championships at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico this past weekend, resulting in a runner-up team finish for the Texans and multiple event National Champions.
In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Nour Rahou was the National Champion with a time of 58.54 and Morgane Lenoir was the runner-up with a time of 58.91.
In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Jamison Lewis placed fourth with a time of 13.73.
In the men’s 4x400-meter relay, the Texans team of Carlton Siwela, Aiden Kelly, Kemron Mathlyn and Zion Miller were the National Champions with a time of 3:05.19.
In the women’s 4x400-meter relay, the Lady Texans team of Lenoir, Camio White, Cheffonia Houston and Rahou placed as the runners-up with a time of 3:39.51.
In the men’s 4x100-meter relay, the Texans team of Quinton Gordon, Kyle Lawrence, Omar James and Lilian Caron-Douillard placed sixth with a time of 39.69.
In the men’s 200-meter dash, James placed sixth with a time of 20.70, and in the men’s 400-meter dash, Joshem Sylvester placed fifth with a time of 47.00.
In the men’s 800-meter run, Yassine Bounasri placed seventh with a time of 1:52.14.
In the men’s 10,000-meter run, Dennis Cheruiyot was the National Champion with a time of 31:16.31.
In the men’s 5,000-meter run, Cheruiyot placed third with a time of 15:00.65 and Ylies Mihoubi placed eighth with a time of 15:18.19.
In the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, Alison Guaman Tisalema placed fifth with a time of 12:11.52.
In the men’s pole vault, Jules Courel was the National Champion with a vault of 5.21 meters (17’-1”), followed by Diego Constantino in fourth place with a vault of 4.81 meters (15’-9.25”) and Haden Judd in seventh place with a vault of 4.56 meters (14’-11.5”).
In the women’s pole vault, Olga Lapuzova placed fourth with a vault of 3.66 meters (12’-0”).
In the women’s javelin, Suerana Alexander was the National Champion with a throw of 49.57 meters (162’7”).
In the men’s javelin, Titouan Dobo Bi was the runner- up with a throw of 70.57 meters (231’-6”), followed by Anthony Diaz placing third with a throw of 68.44 meters (224’-6”) and Rayvohn Telesford placed sixth with a throw of 62.41 meters (204’-9”).
In the women’s triple jump, Leticia Ouaba was the runner-up with a jump of 13.12 meters (43’-0.5”) and Ta’Nae Henderson placed eighth with a jump of 12.25 meters (40’-2.25”).
In the men’s triple jump, Adem Boualbani was the runner-up with a jump of 15.84 meters (51’-11.75”).
In the men’s decathlon, Tom Galabert was the runner- up with a total score of 6,570 points, and in the women’s heptathlon, Violette Bray placed eighth with a total score of 4,259 points.
In the women’s high jump, Rachel Coudrec placed eighth with a jump of 1.59 meters (5’-2.5”).
In the women’s shot put, Kahllah Bailey placed fourth with a throw of 13.88 meters (45’-6.5”) and Alexander placed fifth with a throw of 13.42 meters (44’-1.5”).
In the team standings, the Texans finished as the National Runners-Up with 93 points, falling just four points short of the National Champion, New Mexico Junior College. The Lady Texans finished fourth out of 30 teams with 63.83 points.
