The Texas Six-Man Coaches Association (TSMCA) hosted its annual all-star game this past Friday and Saturday The TSMCA all-star game is held every summer in Wichita Falls, Texas. This event showcases the top graduating senior Division 1 and 2 6-man football players as well as girls and boys basketball players from high school programs across the state.
These matchups put the best athletes from the East and West regions of Texas against each other. Since 6man football is relatively more popular in these rural and smaller Texas communities, the all-star weekend is a massive celebration for these studentathletes, their coaches, and their families.
The Hockley County players on this year's roster for the West Division 1 football team was Axel Rivera from Whiteface ,and Division 2 included Gregory Johnson from Whitharral.
For the West boys’ basketball team, the Hockley County players were Damian Rodriguez, Nate Sanson, and Brent Robinson all from Whitharral. The West team was coached by Coach Berger and Coach Watson from Whitharral.
The girls’ basketball team was coached by Coach Ortega and Coach Rodriguez from Whitharral.
The football game was played at Memorial Stadium at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls Basketball games were played at D.L. Ligon Gym that is also at Midwestern State University.
The Division 1 football game saw the West winning 54-20 , and the West Division 2 game dominating with a score of 71-12.
Greg Johnson from Whittharral was named the Defensive MVP for Division 2.
The girl’s West basketball team came on strong against the East, winning 69-18.
The West boys completed the sweep with a 98-58 win over the East.
The all-star weekend concluded with the West leaving its mark in Wichita Falls, showcasing the depth of talent found in 6-man programs across West Texas .
