The Whitharral Panthers couldn’t find an answer on either side of the ball on Friday night.
The Panthers fell 58-8 to Westbrook Wildcats as struggles on offense and string of turnovers allowed the game to snowball into a lopsided loss.
The Panthers struggled to generate consistent offense against a Westbrook defense that repeatedly put them in difficult situations. Whitharral finished with just 68 total yards, including 58 rushing yards and 10 passing yards.
Whitharral committed four turnovers, losing three fumbles and throwing one interception. The Wildcats capitalized on those mistakes, including returning an interception for a touchdown.
The Panthers Head Coach Josh EagWatson understands having a new quarterback under center will create some inconsistent issues but he believes the QB switch to junior Cooper Burns will be necessary for later in the season.
“It allows us to have another back in the backfield to throw and run,” Watson said. “Working that new quarterback on receiving the snap cleaner and on certain sweep steps.”
The Panthers will have an opportunity to respond in their next game versus the Happy Cowboys as they look to clean up mistakes that contributed to Friday’s loss.
