After their first loss last week, Whiteface Antelopes responded the following week with a 70-12 win over the Logan Longhorns.
“It was a good bounceback game. I was a little worried about it, to be honest; I was worried we would come out sluggish, and we really didn’t,” Whiteface Head Coach Jeff Jones said about his team shaking off their loss versus Borden County.
Whiteface’s defense forced two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, including a pick-six by Isaak Soliz and a scoop-and-score by Luke Grensham. In addition to the turnovers, the Lopes were able to get production in their frontline, with Ryland Jones racking up four sacks and, as a collective, being able to hold Logan to -17 total rushing yards.
Rushing for 294 yards, Whiteface used four rushers to score six touchdowns, including Luke Gresham and Jaxon Hodge with two touchdowns each, coupled with Ivaniel Gandara and Isaak Soliz with one touchdown each. Going into their last non-district game, Whiteface (5-1) will host Newcastle (4-1) an opponent that coach Jones knows will be physical.
“They’re going to line up, punch you in the mouth, and they’re going to do what they do,” Watson said. “We just need to make sure we block them. They’re very active on the defensive front, so we need to become better blockers up front on our run game.”
The matchup between Whiteface and Newcastle will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Whiteface.
