Capturing their second of the season, Whitharral moved the ball through the ground to defeat Petersburg 56-50.
This win for the Whitharral Panthers snaps their fourgame losing streak, a much-needed win to build some confidence heading into district play.
“A very good win for us,” Whitharral Head Coach Josh Watson said. “Kind of get the Morale back up.”
The catalyst for Whitharral’s offense was quarterback Hudson Prowell, re-sponsible for all eight touchdowns by the Panthers, including six rushing and two throwing touchdowns to offensive linemen Stedson Dobrovolny and Bradley Gray.
Dating back to the Richland Spring game, the week before, Whitharral’s coaching staff started to use Prowell as a dual- threat quarterback to open up the offense.
“Versus Richland (Springs), we kind of found some ways to make it where he (Prowell) could be more of a dual threat and make it easy for him to read the backer and do some pass stuff,” Watson said about opening the offense for Prowell.
A highlight on defense was middle linebacker Cooper Burns with five tackles and two interceptions, including the game-sealing interception.
“He was able to see it really well in the middle of the field,” Watson said. “He made two great picks.”
Before playing their first District 1-1A game, Whitharral will have a bye week with a focus on pass defense in preparation for Nazareth.
