JOE SMART
Joe Neal Smart, 75, of Levelland passed from this life on Oct. 4, 2026. Visitation for Joe was held Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Krestridge Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 9, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
Joe was born Sept. 19,1951 in Pampa, Texas to Robert Lee Smart and Tommie June Darby Smart. He graduated from Levelland High School in 1970. He attended South Plains College and was in the United State Navy Reserves. Joe began his active-duty career with the Navy in 1972. He completed his training in Pensacola, Florida and then served in Edzell, Scotland for eighteen months where he specialized in communications. He received the National Defense Service Medal for his service during a national crisis.
Joe was skilled in many different trades. He worked in carpentry, glass installation and the oilfield. He worked many years for Wedge Wireline and Gearhart Wireline as a wireline engineer and then for TriCare Medical Equipment before retirement.
He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and after a win, he would call his daughters and say “How ‘bout them Cowboys!” Over the years, he took many fishing trips to the Rio Grande with his brothers and family members. He enjoyed frying the catfish they caught, spending time with family and playing horseshoes, washers and pool. In his later years, he enjoyed driving around Levelland everyday and spending time at Lobo Lake where he would eat his lunch, fish and feed the geese and ducks. He also loved watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and other game shows.
He was a jack of all trades and would build and rig up all sorts of contraptions to solve a multitude of problems. Anyone who knew Joe knows he loved to make goofy faces, crack jokes, and make people laugh. We will miss him and his oneliners dearly.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Tommie June Smart and sister, Doris Baker.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his twin daughters, Sandi Smart of Forney, Texas and Carrie Shaw and husband, Neal of Gainesville, Texas; grandchildren, Walker Shaw and Colleen Shaw of Gainesville, Texas; brothers, Billy Smart and Ernie Smart of Levelland; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
