In a much-needed win, the Levelland Loboettes Volleyball Team fought for some breathing room in the fourth spot in District 5-4A but fell 3-1 to the San Angelo Lake View Maidens.
Levelland’s head coach Jai Madrid says this was a “tough loss,” as the Lobos lost three consecutive sets: 25-23, 25-13, 27-25 to end the match.
“The energy, the chemistry, it just didn’t transfer,” Madrid said. “ I feel like that’s where we failed tonight.”
The fourth-place spot in the district race is now a tie between Levelland and Lake View, with both teams having a 5-6 district record, but the Maidens have two wins over the Loboettes this season.
The top four seeds in district make the playoffs, so the urgency for the last district game at Plainview at noon on Oct. 24, will be emphasized by Madrid to her team, in order to control their own destiny.
“Find a way to make it work,” Madrid said to her team in the locker room following the loss versus Lake View. “We’re just hoping to find success on Saturday, and I think it’ll change things. I think it’ll change our seeding if we do beat Plainview.”
Madrid will look to her senior class of six to provide some leadership throughout the last stretch of the season.
“I think moving forward, I think that they’re (seniors) going to be very helpful in helping us light that fire up again,” Madrid said going into their last district game of the season.
