Roughnecks have rough night in Farwell

The Sundown Roughnecks lost to the Farwell Steers Friday night 49-0. In a game marred by poor execution and an uncharacteristic lack of ball security.

Sundown took the opening kick and fumbled on the first series and the Steers capitalized, quickly turning it into points

The Roughnecks struggled to execute against a large and powerful Farwell team.

Fumbles in the first half led to the Steers having a short offensive field and the Sundown defense did not execute well, missing assignments and failing to secure tackles.

Farwell led 21-0 at the

half. The defense executed better to start the second half, stopping Farwell but the first offensive play was fumbled. The defense again held,

but another turnover gave the Steers the ball again and Farwell scored again.

The turnover bug continued to end promising drives as the Roughneck offense started moving the ball. The defense, exhausted from being on the field for so long, just could not hold up and Farwell went on to a 49-0 win.

After the game, a grimfaced Coach Rogers simply said “Eight turnovers”. Sundown will look to regroup before hosting a tough Wink Wildcats team for Homecoming September 16th.
