The Sundown Roughnecks hosted the Bulldogs of Tahoka on Thursday night with both teams fighting for a chance to stay alive in the playoff hunt and the Roughnecks emerged victorious 39-26. The Roughnecks got off to a fast start in the first quarter with the running game finding holes inside and speed to the corners leading to three Sundown touchdowns, while the defense surrendered a single score.
Both teams missed a PAT and the score was 20-6 at the end of one.
Defense dominated the second quarter as each held the opposite offense to a single score.
Both failed at two-point conversions and the halftime score was the Roughnecks 26 and the Bulldogs 12.
Sundown scored the only points in the third quarter and another failed PAT made the score 32-12 going into the final period.
In the fourth, Sundown put the ball in the end-zone and converted the PAT for a 39-12 lead.
Tahoka answered with a pair of scores in the back half of the period for a final score of 39-26 in Sundown’s favor.
Post lost on Friday night and the Roughnecks drew Stratford (10-0) for the first round of the playoffs, which was played in Hereford on Thursday.
