The risk of having your car or valuables stolen increases while shopping and traveling during the holidays.
The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority is reminding Texans, “If you like it, lock it.”
Individuals can adopt simple habits to protect themselves from the threat of motor vehicle crime by lock vehicles, taking keys out of the vehicle when turned off, never leaving the vehicle running unattended, even if the individual will only be away for a moment, hide or remove valuables from the vehicle and contact law enforcement immediately if anything suspicious has been seen or if the car is stolen.
“By remaining vigilant, Texans can protect their vehicles and what’s inside,” said MVCPA Chairman and Laredo Assistant Chief of Police Mike Rodriguez. “Don’t let criminals disrupt your life and damage your vital sense of security in the community.”
The Levelland Chief of Police Albert Garcia has cautioned community members who decided to travel for the holidays to be weary of criminal activity as the holiday season does see in increase of cases.
In addition to vehicle safety and protecting property, Chief Garcia advises individuals to keep valuables that could be seen from the front of properties in doors and locked away when away from home.
With online shopping and deliveries, visible boxes and packages make a home become a target.
