THETA EPSILON

THETA EPSILON--The Theta Epsilon Chapter of Delta kappa Gamma recently met. The program was presented by John and Bette Hope of the Hockley County Historical Commission. Mr. Hope took the members on a visual tour of several historical areas in Hockley County as he described each in detail. He aptly told how many of the sights in Hockley county got their name, and how they evolved into today’s everyday life. Bette Hope told of the Ranch Tours that were conducted, along with fun stories that were found in the research for those tours. Members also enjoyed celebrating the birthday of Delta Kappa Gamma which was founded by Annie Webb Blanton. Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, member of the faculty of the University of Texas and a former state superintendent of public instruction in Texas, conceived the idea of an organization for women educators. Eleven women educators from Texas, representing various professional positions in education, were initiated by Dr. Blanton. Alpha Chapter was installed on June 3, 1929.
