Wilson becomes Anton AD

Anton ISD has elevated current Head Lady Bulldog Basketball Coach Tami Wilson to Athletic Director.

Coach Wilson has coached with Seagraves for a little over a decade with the girls basketball team and knows her previous job experience will help her in Anton as she takes on additional responsibility on top of her basketball program.

“I spent the last decade at Seagraves and I was the head coach there and worked under some good athletic directors,” said Coach Wilson. “I learned from them and kind of mimiced a lot of things that they would do. That’s how you do it, you learn from others and implement their teachings into yours and that’s just how you get better.”

Coach Wilson said she took the job because she knew she had a responsibility and she wanted to be a part of something other than being the basketball coach. With the passing of Anton’s former Athletic Director Matthew Hoover, Wilson knew there would be a lot of tasks and responsibilities that would have to take care of.

“We knew we all had to pull together when Coach Hoover left and we all know the ropes and what Anton needs,” said Coach Wilson. “When they came to me and asked me about the position, I was thrilled to be a part of it and have the opportunity to play that role for us.”

When asked about the community, coach Wilson didn’t hold back and said that it was nothing that she has ever been a part of.

For her, it is like a family in Anton and she loves the amount of support that each sport gets.

“This community is like no other, they stand behind you 100 percent, they back you, they support you, they support their kids,” said Coach Wilson. “Every game whether it be football, basketball or track, you see all those parents out there supporting them and it’s a great small community.”

She hasn’t been in Anton long, but she knows that it’ll be a challenge that she is ready for, and she is excited to be working with the student athletes that show so much potential. She added that she is extremely excited to be working for Anton and is ready to take on more roles.

“I’m super excited, “ said Wilson. “I’m a basketball coach, but I get to attend all the football games here, so that’ll be new for me,” said Coach Wilson. “I know football, I just don’t know how to coach it, so I’’ll have the opportunity to play a different role and make sure our coaches are taken care of and our kids are getting the best that they deserve in every sport, not just one sport. I’m excited that I’m a part of every program, not just the basketball program.”

The Anton Bulldogs will continue with their Summer Workouts for the next few months, and Coach Wilson will continue to get a rhythm on how to get things done in her elevated role.
