The Morton Indians played the Munday Monguls last Friday at home picking up their third win of the season and staying undefeated after posting a score of 62-0, at home.
The Indians had one of the biggest blowout wins of their season in just their third game of the season. This time last year, the Indians fell to Munday with a score of 38-14 as the away team. This time around Morton has found their feet with first year Head Coach Keith Mauldin and they held onto that loss from last year.
It was a great game for them on the ground game as Munday had no answer for them since the Indians were able to pick up 396 yards on the ground with 201 of those yards coming from their quarterback Dante Chavez.
Morton’s ground attack included Christain Enriquez rushing for 105 yards on three carries, Xavien Rodriguez rushing for 86 yards and a touchdown off of four carries, and Andres Bejarano rushing for 12 yards on one carry.
The team had their way on the ground and could not be stopped, through the air they did not have to pass much, but they were still able to pick up 85 yards through the air with Chavez spreading out the ball and throwing for 64 of those yards and the remainder of those yards coming from Alex Lopez who threw the ball for 21 yards on his only attempt of the night.
The defense for the Indians held strong only allowing two first-downs the entire game and allowing only 48 yards of total offense. The Monguls had 52 passing yards for the total of the game as well as -4 yards rushing.
The Indians were able to force a turnover, intercepting a pass from Munday and completing the shutout.
The Morton Indians will play Boys Ranch this Friday at home as it is their Homecoming game and will hope to put on a show for the home crowd. The game will start at 7 p.m. at Indian Stadium.
