Panthers mercy Kiowas 52-6, at Vega

The Whitharral Panthers took a 52-6 win over the Booker Kiowas in UIL Class 1A 6-man High School Football action last Thursday at Vega.

“We may have played our best game so far against an improving Booker team,” said Whitharral Head Football Coach Jeremy Holt.

“It wasn’t perfect,” he added, “but we are headed in the right direction and playing our best ball at the right time.”

Whitharral jumped out early. A 31-yard pass from Brent Robinson to Jack Griffin, followed by a 36-yard pass from Griffin to Robinson and a 33-yard pass from Griffin to Rayden Potter made the score 24-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Booker scored early in the second quarter, but the Panthers answered with a nine-yard touchdown run from Robinson, a 34-yard pass from Griffin to Potter. a 79-yard pick six from Griffin and a three-yard run from Dawson Rodgers.

Griffin went 6-for-9 for 174 yards and three touchdowns. Robinson had a single 31-yard touchdown pass.

Potter had three receptions for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Robinson had two catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Nate Sansom had a 33-yard catch and Griffin had a 31yard touchdown catch.

Robinson had six carries for 52 yards with a touchdown and a fumble. Griffin had two carries for 21 yards and Rodgers had a three-yard touchdown carry.

Potter had 6 ½ tackles. Nomar Gomez had six. Rodgers had 3 ½. Brolin Kennedy had two. Griffin had 1 ½ with an interception and a pick-six. Copper Popelka had 1 ½. Landon Lee had one.

The Panthers are ranked sixth in UIL Division II by sixmanfootball.com and will host the no. 7 Amherst Bulldogs on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
