Ropes handles Cowboys, at Plains

The Ropes Eagles came up against the Plains Cowboys where they stayed undefeated in district play and prgress to 3-0 with a score of 25-19 last Friday.

Ropes offense was able to keep up with Plains as they had 215 passing yards along with 136 rushing yards on the night. The Eagles offense was able to put up 351 total yards off of 57 total plays throughout the night.

It was a scoreless quarter in the first quarter as neither teams were able to get it going early on in the game. The first score of the game came from Ropes as Kade Franklin was able to get the Eagles on the board with a 47yard pass to Reese Williams making the score 7-0 after a good PAT from Williams.

Plains was able to respond with a touchdown of their own after a lengthy drive ending in a touchdown pass as the Cowboys picked apart the Eagles defense making the score 7-6 after they missed their PAT.

Coming out of the halftime break the Eagles were able to put together a productive drive as Bregg Feldman was able to run the ball into the endzone from two yards out and extending the teams lead 13-6 after Williams missed the second PAT of the night.

Plains again was able to repeat their results as they scored another touchdown off of a run from one yard out as this time they were able to make their PAT and tying the game at 13-13 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter with the game coming down to the wire, Ropes was able to get another touchdown from Feldman from another two yards out and his second touchdown of the night. Williams missed the PAT, but it did not seem to matter as the defense for Ropes showed up and Branson Beck got a interception that he returned for a pick-six. That play from him extended the lead for the Eagles as with that pick-six they put the game out of reach at 25-13 after the team missed their two-point conversion.

Plains was able to score late in the game but from there on it didnt matter as Ropes played well enough to put the game out of reach as they won the game 25-19.

The quarterback for Ropes, Kade Franklin, had a good game as he threw for 215 yards and went 12/22 on the night with no interceptions on the night. His longest pass of the night went to his leading receiver Reese Williams for a big 47 yard touchdown pass.

The Leading receiver was Williams with six receptions along with 107 yards and one touchdown for the night. Mason Marmolejo had a good night as well, he had two catches on the night with 53 total yards. Kaden Riker had two catches on the night with 45 yards, and Hayden Torres had two catches for 10 yards.

Although Torres air game was not there, on the run he did good as he led the team in rushing with 19 attempts and 98 yards with his longest run of the night going for 22 yards. Feldman did well on the ground for the Eagles as well as he had seven attempts on the ground with 38 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

The Ropes defense had a tough night as they allowed 372 total yards on the night. Even though they gave up a lot of yards on the night, the defense was still able to force four turnovers on the night. Three interceptions and one fumble was the story for the Ropes defense.

Kolton Dockery, Branson Beck and Branson Simental all earned an interception on the night as Reese Williams was able to force a fumble on the night against the Cowboys.

The leading tackler on the Ropes defense was Williams with five tackles on the night with two assists and two tackles for loss. Dockery had five tackles as well with three assists, Mike Sanchez had five tackles with eight assists, Beck had four tackles with four assists and Brady Bryan had three tackles, two assists, one sack and a tackle for loss. The team was able to rack up three sacks on the night, one from Bryan, one from Victor Saenz and another from Jonathan Fowler.

The team had a few mental mistakes as they nine flags thrown on them for a total of 29 yards lost. The Eagles played perfect offensively as they had no turnovers on the night.

The Ropes Eagles remain undefeated in district play and will play against the New Home Leopards this Friday at home for Senior Night as both teams will play for a shot at the district title.
