The Ropes Eagles faced off against a tough opponent in the fourth ranked undefeated New Home Leopards in the District 2A-2 Region 1 District 4 High School Football District Championship game where they fell 56-7, at home.
It looked like a promising game as Ropes was able to keep up with New Home in the first quarter as they kept the game 147 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a play between Kade Franklin throwing a pass to Reese Williams who was able to take the pass 94 yards for a touchdown early on in the game.
Unfortunately for the Eagles that was all they were able to get offensively as they wouldn’t score again throughout the game.
The offense for the Eagles was able to rack up 282 total yards with 211 yards coming through the air and 71 on the ground.
The Eagles defense was not able to stop the New Home offense as they let up a total of 457 yards, with 288 of those yards on the ground and 169 were through the air.
Quarterback Kade Franklin went 13-for-20 with 211 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions on the night.
The leading receiver on the night was Reese Williams who had five catches on the night for 150 yards and a touchdown on the night. Kolter Dockery had three catches for 24 yards, Colton Mortensen had two catches on the night with 20 yards, Mason Marmolejo had another two catches for 15 yards and Kaden Riker had two catches and two yards receiving.
The Eagles had a hard time getting the run game going. The rushing leader was Bregg Feldman who had five carries for 33 yards. Jacob Wyatt had five carries taking it 19 yards, Hayden Torres had 13 carries on the night with 17 yards total and Franklin was able to scramble out of the pocket twice for two yards on the night as well.
On the defensive side of the ball the leading tackler on the night was Brady Bryan who had six tackles, eight assists and three tackles for loss on the night. Teammates Dockery had five tackles with one assist, Jonathan Fowler had five tackles, five assists and two tackles for loss, Mortensen had one tackle on the night along with the rest of the defense and more assists from the team.
Ropes is 6-4 and will be going up against the Ralls Jackrabbits at the Abernathy High School this Thursday at 7 p.m. Ralls is going into the game with a record of 7-3 as well, coming off of a loss to Sudan.
