Ropes season comes to an end in Abernathy

The Ropes Eagles faced off against the Ralls Jackrabbits llast Thursday in Abernathy falling 28-13 in the bi-district round of hte UIL Class 2A-2 High School Football Playoffs.

The Eagles are coached by Head Football Coach and Defensive Coordinator Beau Riker who went into his 16th year of coaching, and first year with the Eagles.

Both offenses were struggled in the first half as they couldn’t pull away or make any big plays happen.

The game would stay scoreless all the way into the half.

Coming out of the break it was a back and forth game that would go down to the fourth quarter.

Finally, the Ralls run game was too much for the Eagle defense.

The Ropes offense would accumulate a total of 222 yards on the night with most of them going through the air to Reese Williams.

Williams was also the leading receiver for the team with seven catches on the night with 88 yards and one touchdown. Mason Marmolejo had four catches for 43 yards,

Kaden Riker had two catches for 17 yards, Brayden Hogg had a catch for seven yards and Kolter Dockery had a catch for two yards.

The Ropes quarterback Kade Franklin threw for 157 yards with one touchdown and one interception on the night. His longest pass of the game would go for 33 yards to Williams. For the rushing attack on the Eagles Jacob Wyatt led the team with 27 yards off of five carries. Hayden Torres had 19 yards off of nine attempts.

Kade Franklin took off twice for a total of 10 yards and Bregg Feldman had one try for nine yards.

The Eagle defense gave up 289 total yards with 252 of those yards coming off of the ground and 37 through the air.

Ropes was able to force one turnover on the night from a fumble that they would recover to help set their offense up.

The Ropes Eagles finish off their season with a overall record of 6-5 and a district record of 4-1 with their only loss in district coming from the fifth ranked New Home Leopards.
