Loboettes win Andrews Tournament

The Levelland Loboettes won yet another tournament, this time in Andrews where they girls went 5-0.

The Loboettes first game of the tournament they went up against the Denver City Lady Mustangs where they won 65-17.

They went into the game firing on all cylinders and trapping the Lady Mustangs to turning the ball over early.

Levelland was able to outscore Denver City in the first half of the game 41-to-15 and leading the Lady Mustangs early.

Going into the halftime break it would be Carly Tienda that would lead the team in scoring as she had 10 points with eight of them coming from the first quarter of the game.

In the second half of the game it was all Levelland once again as they would go on to outscore Denver City 25-to-2.

On the boards both teams were pretty even in rebounding as Denver City had 37 compared to Levelland’s 36 in the game.

Levelland was able to force way more turnovers as they had 24 steals compared to the Lady Mustangs eight.

Levelland’s shooting on the night was superb as well as they went 69 percent from the free throws and 39 percent from the field. Denver City only went 17 percent from both free throws and field goals.

The Loboettes won in a landslide taking the first win of the tournament.

Although they won the first game by a big margin they had to go up against the Caprock Lady Longhorns where they took the win in a close 38-29 victory.

The first half of the game neither team was able to get the edge on one another as each team kept it close.

Levelland was able to get a lead going into halftime as they led 20-to-17.

Heading into the third the Loboettes would outscsore Caprock 11-to-7 and extend their lead 31-24.

The Loboettes would finally be able to put the game away as they would hold Caprock to only five points in the fourth quarter while scoring an additional seven of their own.

The leading scorer for the Loboettes was Tienda as she had nine in the game.

Sanchez was able to rack up anther eight for the team, Jones had seven, Velardez had six, Emery Smith had four, Presley Smith had three and Morin finished the game with one.

The Loboettes were outdone on the backboards as Caprock was able to haul in 23 rebounds to Levelland’s 18.

Levelland was able to cause more turnovers than the Lady Longhorns as they out did them 13-to-8 in the game.

The Loboettes shot well from the free throw line as they shot 75 percent. From the field they were 33 percent.

For the teams third game of the tournament they faced off against the El Paso Bowie Lady Bears who they beat 71-10.

It was a case of pure domination as the Loboettes held the Lady Bears to zero points in the first half of the game while they were able to score 48.

Loboettes went into the break with the score 48-0 with their phenomenal defense and stellar offense.

The leading scorer at the half was Loboette Emery Smith who had 11 points with nine of them coming from beyond the arch.

The second half was more of the same story as the team only let up 10 total points in the game with five coming from the third quarter and five in the fourth.

The leading scorer on the team against the Lady Bears would be Emery Smith as she was able to put up 14 points.

Presley Smith was able to put up 13, Sanchez had 11, Jones had eight, two loboettes in tienda and Penner both had six a piece, Stafford and Brackens had five a piece and Morin finished with three.

With the girls third game in the books they faced off against the Alpine Lady Bucks where the team took the win 88-20.

The first half of the game started off hot for the Loboettes as they put up 29 points in both the first and second quarter of the game while holding Alpine to only 15 points in the first half.

Loboette Morin was the leading scorer at the half with nine points, six of them coming from the second quarter.

Levelland was able to close out the game with ease as they just burned out as much time as possible to move on to the Championship game.

Jones was able to finish the game with 15 points and lead the team in scoring while three other Loboettes were able to finish in double digits in the game as well.

Emery Smith had 14, Tienda and Morin each had 11, Penner had nine along with Sanchez, Brackens and Velardez each had eight a piece and Stafford finished the game with three.

The Loboettes led the game in rebounds as they were able to outdo Alpine 53-to-30 on the boards.

Levelland was also able to get another 20 steals to go as they only turned the ball over four times throughout their game.

The Loboettes shot 56 percent from the free throw line and shot 43 percent in field goals.

For the teams last game of the tournament, they had to face off against a district opponent in the Snyder Lady Tigers in the Championship round where the girls won 65-38.

The first quarter of the game started off well for the Loboettes as they were able to space out the floor and get 18 points to go in the first quarter while holding Snyder to eight.

Second half was more of the same story as Levelland would extend their lead by six. The score going into the halftime break would be 29-13.

For the rest of the game it would be all Levelland as they would finish the game out scoring 38 points in the second half while holding Snyder to 25 points.

Levelland would win by a big margin in most of their games and win the tournament going a perfect 5-0 throughout the weekend.

The leading scorer on the team against Snyder would be Loboette Jones as she would finish off with 15 throughout the game.

Both Tienda and Velardez would finish with 13 a piece, Presley Smith had nine, Brackens and Sanchez had five a piece, Emery Smith had four, Penner had two and Morin had one.

Neither team got the edge on one another one the backboards as both teams hauled in 26 rebounds.

Levelland was able to force more turnovers though on the night with 18-to-5 differential.

The Loboettes shot 78 percent from the charity stripe and 39 percent from the field.

The Loboettes progress to 17-1 on the year and will face off against the Odessa Lady Broncos this upcoming Tuesday as the away team at 12:15 P.M.
