Lady Cats fall to Floydada 50-32, at home

The Smyer Lady Cats took on the Floydada Lady Whirlwinds this past Friday at home where they girls lost 50-32.

The first quarter for Smyer started off slow as they were held to just two points in the first while allowing 15 to be scored.

In the second quarter of play Smyer picked it up as they were outscored but not by much as it was only by two points before the halftime break.

The score going into the halftime break was Smyer trailing Floydada 31-16.

Maegan Smith for the Lady Cats was the leading scorer at the half contributing 11 points to the teams 16.

In the third quarter the Lady Cats found themselves struggling once more as they were outscored 10-to-5 and dropping their guard for Floydada to add onto their lead on the night.

For the final quarter of play Smyer was finally able to outscore the Lady Whirlwinds as they outdid them 11-to-9 to wrap up the game as they fell short 50-32 to end the game.

The team shot the ball for 20% from the field while going for 17% from beyond the arch against Floydada. The bright spot for the teams shooting was that they did well from the charity stripe shooting an efficient 63% on the night.

The Lady Cats did well on the boards but fell just short to Floydada as they were able to haul in two more on the night with 53 total compared to Smyer’s 51.

The Smyer defense did have a good night blocking shots though, as they had 14 blocked shots all night long while only having four of their shots blocked.

The Lady Cats were able to force six turnovers throughout the game with steals while giving the ball up 21 times during their contest.

Smith led the team in scoring at the end of the game with 13, nine of them coming from the second quarter of play.

Two Lady Cats finished with six points a piece in Dyamond Baker and Vannah Jourden, Rylee Riedel had four, Kira Posadas had two and Kaia Brandon finished with one point.

The Smyer Lady Cats fall to 7-9 on the season with their district record sitting at 1-4.

The teams next game will be against the Ralls Jackrabbits at home at 6:15 p.m.
