Loboettes handle Big Springs in District Opener

The Levelland Loboettes hosted the Big Spring Lady Steers this past Friday for the teams district opener where the team won 75-8.

The start of the game was all Levelland as the Loboettes would outscore Big Springs 18-0 in the first quarter of play.

The second quarter of the game was more of the same for the first as they held them to only four points in the second while putting up an additional 21 to give them the 39-4 lead going into the halftime break.

Going into the third quarter of the game Levelland would give up the most points of the game they have of the night with three points being scored in the third while they had another 19 to go.

For the final quarter of play Levelland would put the game to bed by outscoring the Lady Steers 17-to-1 in the fourth and taking the district opener by a huge margin of victory.

The leading scorer for the Loboettes was Presley Smith as she finished the game with 16 points on the night.

Emery Smith had another 13 to go, Tanaeasia Brackens and Leilani Sanchez both had 10 a piece, Carly Tienda would grab six, Kaylee Penner and Olivia Velardez both had five a piece, Mia Morin had four and Maddie Stafford finished with three on the night.

Levelland led the Lady Steers in every category of the night as they outdid them on the boards 39-to-33.

The Loboettes would force 27 turnovers on the night while giving the ball up only two times throughout the night.

Even in the blocking category Levelland was able to get two to go while only having their shot blocked once on the night.

Shooting percentage wise Levelland shot the ball well as they hit for 37% from total field goals while going for 21% from beyond the arch. The Big Spring Lady Steers shot the ball for 50% beating out Levelland by five percent as the Loboettes shot for 45% from the charity stripe.

The Levelland Loboettes progressed to 23-2 on the season while going 1-0 in district play.

The team will face off against the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs this Friday as the away team and the game will start at 6:15 p.m. for the girls third game in district play.
