Morton handles Anton on the road

The Morton Indians took on the Anton Bulldogs as the away team where they won the game 74-27 this Tuesday.

The first quarter of the game started off good for the Indians as they were able to take a quick 14-7 lead at the end of the first.

For the second quarter of the game is where Morton was able to take complete control of the game as they poured on 26 points while holding the Bulldogs to only four.

Going into the halftime break the Indians held the lead with the score at 40-11.

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring at the half was Jose Avalos who had five points, three of them from the free throw line.

For the Indians leading the team in scoring was E.J. Rivas who had nine points, six of them coming from inside the paint in the first quarter.

Going into the third quarter of play, Morton would not slow down as they got another 22 points to go for them while Anton continued in their struggles only getting 10 points. The score going into the fourth quarter of play was 62-21 with Morton leading.

For the final quarter of play Morton would outscore Anton 12-to-6 and take the win on the night.

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring against the Indians was Avalos as he had 12 points throughout the night with eight points coming from the free throw line.

Caleb Carlock finished the game with seven points, Mason Anderson had another four, Adrian Castillo had two and two Bulldogs finished with one point on the night in Gavin Martinez and Autilano Castillo.

For the Indians, they had two players get in the double digits on the night in Alex Lopez who had 15 and Rivas who finished the game with 14.

Zeph Silvas had nine for the Indians, two more Indians had eight points on the night in Andres Bejarano and Cade Lyon, Jaeden Alvarado had six, Lane Lyon and Anibal Casteneda both finished with five a piece, Britton Boggs had four and A.J. Mendoza finished with two on the night in the teams win.

Morton progressed to 15-7 on the year and 3-1 in district play sitting in second place only behind Whitharral who is undefeated in district play. The Indians next game of the season is against the Whitharral Panthers this Tuesday on the road at 7:30 p.m.

The Anton Bulldogs will fall to 6-8 on the season while going 2-3 in district play. The Bulldogs next game will be against the Whiteface Antelopes at home this upcoming Friday at 7:30 p.m.
