Sundown routes Post Antelopes in district play

The Sundown Roughnecks took on the Post Antelopes this past Tuesday for their district game where they won 50-42.

The first quarter of the game the Roughnecks were able to take the small lead as they led the Antelopes 6-to-5 at the end of the first.

For the second quarter of play Sundown found themselves trailing Post as they let up 15 points being scored on their defense while they put up only nine points of their own as they trailed going into the halftime break.

The score at the half was Post leading the Roughnecks 2015.

Leading the Roughnecks in scoring at the half was Briar Miller who had six points, all of them coming from inside the paint.

Going into the third quarter Sundown was able to come out and keep the game close as they were still outscored 18-to-15. Sundown kept the game close as they trailed only by eight points going into the fourth quarter of play.

For the final quarter of play the Roughnecks had their best scoring output of the game as they were able to light the Antelopes up from inside the paint and getting whatever they wanted, the team went on a 20-to-4 run in the fourth to take the comeback win on the road.

Leading the team in scoring for the night was Jayson Martinez who had 12 points on then night, eight of them coming from the second half of play.

Branson Sanders finished with 10 points, Watson Evans had nine, Miller finished with eight, Kye Powell had seven, Adan Escamilla had three and Jaxon Rodriguez finished with one point in the teams win.

The Sundown Roughnecks progress to 7-13 in season play while going up to 3-4 in district play.

The teams next opponent in district play will be against the Seagraves Eagles this Tuesday at home at 7:30 p.m.
