Lady Cats fall to Hale Center

The Smyer Lady Cats took on the Hale Center Lady Owls this past Friday at home in district play where they lost 53-41.

The first quarter of the game had the Lady Cats taking a lead due to their ability to attack the basket and their defense being able to force turnovers.

The second quarter had the Lady Owls outscoring Smyer 14to-10 to cut the Lady Cat lead to only three points at the halftime break.

The score at the half had Smyer leading 22-19.

Leading the Lady Cats in scoring at the half was Vannah Jourden as she had nine points at the half, eight of them coming from inside the paint.

Going into the third quarter of play Smyer would be outscored once more, this time 14-to-13 to cut their lead down to two points going into the fourth quarter.

For the final quarter of play Smyer would let go of the lead early and wouldn’t be able to get it back as Hale Center would go on a 20 points run in the fourth while Smyer would only be able to get six to fall for them.

Leading the Lady Cats in scoring was Jourden as she was the only one who finished in double digits with 18 points.

Dyamond Baker and Rylee Riedel both had six a piece, Kira Posadas had four, Maegan Smith had three and Kaia Brandon and Jada Hernandez both had two in the teams loss.

The Smyer Lady Cats fall to 12-13 on the season while slipping to 3-8 in district play sitting in sixth place in district.

The teams next game in district play is against the Sudan Lady Hornets this Friday at home at 6 p.m.
