Bobcats lose to Owls 73-26

The Smyer Bobcats took on the Hale Center Owls this past Tuesday at home in district play where the team lost 73-26.

For the first quarter of the game Smyer was having a hard time getting shots to fall for them as they only had two points in the first from Brayden Wade. The score at the end of the first quarter was Smyer trailing 12-2.

For the second quarter of play they continued to struggle as they let up 17 points before the half while only scoring six of their own.

The score at the halftime break was the Bobcats trailing 298.

Leading Smyer in scoring at the half was Mason Medart and Wade as they both had three points at the half.

Going into the third quarter of play Smyer couldn’t keep up with the Owls as they were outscored 28-to-10 as they fell in their deficit by even more going into the fourth quarter.

For the final quarter of play Smyer would let up another 26 points in the final quarter while getting another 13 points to fall for them, having their best scoring output of the game.

Leading the team in scoring for the Bobcats was Rylan Smith who was the only one who finished in double digits with 12 points on the night.

Austin Martinez had six points, Wade had five and Micah Stevens, Ryann Gutierrez, Skyler Pond and Zapata all finished with two points on the night in the teams loss.

Both teams were even in the rebound batttle as both pulled down 28 boards a piece.

The Bobcats were able to force six turnovers on the night while giving the ball up 26 times.

Smyer did lead the game in blocks though as they had three in the game while Hale Center was only able to get one.

The Smyer Bobcats shot the ball for 33% from the field while going for 36% from long range in the game. They also shot for 43% from the free throw line in the teams loss.

The Smyer Bobcats fell to 620 on the season while going 0-9 in district play sitting in eight place in district.

The Bobcats next game of the season will be against the Sudan Hornets this Friday at home at 7:30 p.m.
