The Morton Maidens took on the Amherst Lady Bulldogs this past Friday in district play at home where they won 60-38.
The start of the game started off with Clarissa Holland of the Maidens getting things started in the first quarter as she was able to get nine points in the first as the team had 10 while only allowing four points to the Lady Bulldogs.
For the second quarter of play Holland would continue her hot streak as she would get another eight to fall for her in the second as her team had 19 points before the half outscoring Amherst 19-to-9 and extending their lead going into the break.
The score at the halftime break was Morton leading the game 29-13 due to the team being able to have their way in the paint.
Holland led the team in scoring at the half with 17 points at the half with 12 of them coming from under the basket.
Going into the third quarter of play the team would get more involved as they would get 13 more points to fall for them as they were outscored and let up 14 points in the third.
For the final quarter of play both team had 10 points in the end and the Maidens were able to take the good district win to break even and sit in third place.
Leading the team in scoring for the night was Maiden Holland as she had 25 points against Amherst with 18 of them coming from her dominance in the paint.
Aerie Rodriguez was the other player that finished in double digits on the night with 18 points in the game.
Khloe Bordayo and Alexiah Garza both had five points a piece, Malorie Villarial and Jayden Keeling had two points each and Alison Yanez, Maya Huckabee and Blaize Garza all finished with one point in the teams win.
The Morton Indians progressed to 13-13 during the season play and 5-5 in district play sitting in third place behind Whiteface and Whitharral.
The Morton Maidens last game of district play was against the Meadow Lady Broncos this past Tuesday as the visiting team.
