Loboettes remain undefeated in district

The Levelland Loboetttes faced off against the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs this past Tuesday at home in district play for basketball where the team won 52-17.

The first quarter of the game started off with the Loboettes taking a comfortable 15 point lead going into the second quarter due to the team being able to force turnovers and earning themselves good fastbreak points.

The second quarter was a struggle for both teams as Levelland was be able to get anything to fall for them and earn only two points while giving up five to the Lady Mustangs before the halftime break.

The score at the half was Levelland leading 19-5.

Leading the Loboettes in scoring at the half was Carly Tienda as she had 10 points, six of them coming from deep range.

Going into the third quarter the Loboettes found their identity again as they went on a 23-5 run against Sweetwater to bring back their offense power.

For the final quarter of play the Loboettes would outscore the Lady Mustangs 10-7 to take the district win and remain at the top of district.

Leading the team in points for the Loboettes was Tienda as she finished with 20 points.

Emery Smith had six, Presley Smith and Sydnii Joyce both finished with six points a piece, Leilani Sanchez had five, Mia Morin had four and Kaylee Penner and Olivia Velardez both had two points in the teams win.

Levelland shot the ball well as they went for 41% from the field while going 17% from long range. The team also shot 5-for-11 from free throws going for 45%.

The Loboettes out did Sweetwater on the boards as they had 49 throughout the night compared to the Lady Mustangs 28.

Levelland outperformed the Lady Mustangs in the turnover category as the Loboettes were able to force 35 turnovers and only give up the ball another 10 times.

The Loboettes progress to 30-2 on the season while staying undefeated in district play.

The team’s last game of district play is against the San Angelo Lake View Maidens this Tuesday at home at 6:15 p.m.
