Lady Lopes remain undefeated in district

The Whiteface Lady Lopes hosted the Whitharral Lady Panthers this past Friday for district basketball play where the team won 44-37.

For the first quarter of the game it was a defensive battle as both teams would not allow easy points at the rim, both teams had seven points in the first tying the game going into the second quarter.

For the second quarter of play the Lady Lopes would take a small lead against the Lady Panthers as they were able to outscore them 12-10 before the halftime break due to Whiteface being able to shoot well as they had all 12 points from beyond the arch.

The score at the end of the half had Whiteface leading 19-17.

Leading the Lady Lopes in scoring at the half was Emma Ayers as she was on fire from three having 12 points all from long range.

For the Lady Panthers it would be Rylee Kristinek who led the team at the half with 10 points, six of them coming from in the paint.

Going into the third quarter of play the Lady Lopes would go on another run to extend their lead as they outscored Whitharral 13-10 taking a five point lead going into the fourth quarter.

For the final quarter of play Whitharral would keep the game close but would not be able to dig themselves back out of their hole as they had another 10 points in the fourth quarter while Whiteface would put up another 12 to end the game and take the district win.

Leading the Lady Lopes in scoring on the night was Ayers as she finished with 15 points being the only one on her team to finish with double digit points.

Emily Blankenship had another eight points, Hannah Blankenship had seven, Tymmyah Olenga and Jaedyn Rector both finished with five points a piece and two more Lady Lopes finished with two points in Lainey Sanders and Kylie Devours.

For the Lady Panthers it would be Kristinek who led the team in scoring as she finished with 13 points on the night.

Madi Chavez and Avery McCain both had nine points a piece and Paige Smith finished with six points in the teams loss.

The Whiteface Antelopes progress to 27-4 on the season while remaining undefeated in district play with a perfect 9-0 record sitting in first place.

The team played their last game of the season this Tuesday against the Amherst Lady Bulldogs as the visiting team.

For the Whitharral Panthers they will fall to 25-5 on the season while slipping to 9-2 in district play as they finished off their district play and await to play the Grady Lady Wildcats with the time and place TBD at the time of this writing.
