The Anton Bulldogs hosted the Amherst Bulldogs this past Friday for district basketball play where the team won 51-47.
The first quarter of the game started off with both teams clicking offensively as Anton was able to jump out to a narrow lead of three points as the score at the end of the first was 22-19.
For the second quarter of play Anton would keep it up as they were able to get 14 points to fall for them before the half as they held Amherst to seven points.
The score at the end of the halftime break was Anton leading Amherst 36-26.
Leading the Anton Bulldogs in scoring at the half was Jose Avalos as he had 16 points, 12 of them coming from inside the paint.
Going into the third quarter of play Anton would against outscore the Amherst Bulldogs 9--4 extending their lead to eight going into the final quarter of play.
For the final quarter Anton was keeping the ball away from Amherst as they scored six points in the fourth while allowing Amherst to get another 15 points to end the game.
Leading the Anton Bulldogs in scoring on the night was both Avalos and Shooter Campos as both finished with 18 points a piece, Campos getting all of his points from beyond the arch.
Gavin Martinez had another eight points, Caleb Carlock had three and both Mason Anderson and Mike Carlisle finished with two points a piece in the teams win.
Anton progresses to 7-10 on the season while slipping to 3-5 in district play sitting in fourth place in district.
The teams last game of district play is against the Morton Indians this Friday as the visiting team at 6:30 p.m.
