Lady Lopes are District Champs

The Whiteface Lady Lopes ended district with a win over the Amherst Lady Bulldogs to become this year’s district champs in 1A region 1 district 7 with the score of 69-14.

The first quarter of the game started off with the Lady Lopes outscoring Amherst 21-2 taking a big 19 point lead going into the second quarter. Whiteface was able to force their way into the paint and cause turnovers as they had 18 of their 21 come from underneath the basket.

The second quarter of play had Whiteface scoring another 21 points while they held the Lady Bulldogs to five points before the end of the half.

The score at the halftime break was Whiteface leading Amherst 42-7.

Emma Ayers led the team in scoring at the half with 13 points, 10 of them coming from inside the paint.

Going into the third quarter of play Whiteface continued their dominance as they had 14 points to go while only letting up seven in the third extending their lead to 42 points.

For the final quarter of play Whiteface put the game away by outscoring Amherst 13-0 taking the district win and finishing off district play undefeated.

Tymmyah Olenga led the Lady Lopes in scoring as she had 16 points on the night, 10 of her points coming form under the basket.

Two other Lady Lopes finished with double digit points in Ayers with 15 and Jaedyn Rector with 10 in their contest.

Lainey Sanders had nine points, Morgan Waggoner had eight, Emily Blankenship had six, Hannah Blankenship had three and Kylie Deavors finished the game with two in the teams win.

Whiteface finishes the season with a record of 28-4 with an undefeated district record of 10-0.

Whiteface’s first playoff game will be at Trinity Christian University at 6 p.m. on Monday with their opponent TBD at the time of this writing.
