Morton wins non-district matchup

The Morton Indians hosted the Lubbock Titans for nondistrict basketball play where the team won 55-45.

The first quarter was the best quarter as the Indians were able to get 20 points to fall for them while they allowed only four points to take a huge lead at the end of the first. Morton was able to get 10 of their points from inside the paint.

The second quarter of play had the Indians being outscored by the Titans 15-10 but still holding the strong 11 point lead going into the halftime break.

The score at the end of the half was Morton leading 30-19, after a great first quarter.

Leading the Indians at the half was both Anibal Casteneda and Zeph Silvas who both had six points at the half.

Going into the third quarter Morton would be outscored once more 20-16, but still holding the small lead going into the fourth quarter.

For the final quarter of play Morton would be able to stop the Titan offense as they would hold them to just six points in the end while they put up another nine of their own to win the game.

Casteneda and Brayden Villarreal both led the team in scoring with nine points a piece.

Silvas and A.J. Mendoza both finished with eight points a piece, E.J. Rivas had seven, Lane and Cade Lyon both had five points a piece and Britton Boggs finished with four points in the teams win.

Morton progressed to 21-8 overall while remaining 8-2 in district play.

The Morton Indians last game of the season is against the Whiteface Antelopes this Tuesday as the visiting team at 5 p.m.
