The Whiteface Antelopes hosted the Morton Indians for both teams final district games of the season of basketball play where the Indians won 44-37.
The first quarter of the game started off with the Antelopes taking the early lead, outshooting Morton 15-10 due to the Antelopes play from inside the paint being able to force their way past defenders. For Morton it would be the opposite as they would have six of their points come from beyond the arch throughout the quarter.
For the second quarter of play both teams would tighten up, but it was Morton to gain the edge as they had six points to fall for them while only letting up five before the halftime break. Morton had four of their six points come off of free throws while Whiteface had their points come off of a layup and long three.
The score at the end of the half was Whiteface leading Morton 20-16.
Leading the Antelopes in scoring at the half were both Ethan Kauffman and Cayden Timmons who both had five points a piece.
For the Indians it would be E.J. Rivas who led the team in scoring at the half with five points of his own.
Going into the third quarter of the game Morton found the answer they were looking for as they had outscored Whiteface 12-9 and cutting the Antelope lead to only one point heading into the fourth quarter of play.
For the final quarter of the game it would be a close battle throughout the night, but it would be the Indians deep bench that would outlast the Antelopes as their players could stay fresh all night long. Morton outscored Whiteface 16-8 taking the lead and the last district game of the season finishing second in district while Whiteface finished in third.
Noah Rendon and Kauffman both led the Antelopes in scoring on the night as both had seven points a piece in their team’s loss.
Auscar Gandara had six points, Josh Whitehead and Timmons both had five a piece, Cesar Chavez had four and Jeremias Chavez finished with three on the night.
For the Indians it would be Alex Lopez who finished the game with 22 points, eight of his points coming from the third quarter.
Rivas finished with eight, Lane Lyon had another five, Cade Lyon had three and Jaeden Alvarado, Brayden Villarreal and A.J. Mendoza all finished with two a piece in the team’s win.
The Whiteface Antelopes will face off against the Sands Mustangs with the time and place TBD at the time of this writing.
For the Morton Indians they will face off against the Grady Wildcats Feb.20 at Tahoka at 6 p.m.
