The Whitharral Lady Panthers took on the Borden County Lady Coyotes this past Friday at Lubbock Cooper for their area matchup in basketball playoffs where the team lost 6259.
The first quarter of the game started off bad for Whitharral as they allowed Borden County to get 25 first quarter points while putting up 11 of their own to trail by 14 early on. The Lady Panther defense had a hard time as they had to watch out for the three ball as Borden County had nine of their points come from long range.
For the second quarter of the game Whitharral picked it up after the bad first quarter as they would outscore Borden 16-11 cutting into their lead heading into the halftime break.
The score at the half was Whitharral trailing 36-27.
Leading Whitharral in scoring at the half was Paige Smith as she had 12 points, six of them from long range.
Going into the third quarter of the game Whitharral’s defense would hold strong as they would allow only seven points in the third while their offense would get 13 to fall for them going into the fourth quarter. The score heading into the fourth was Whitharral trailing 43-40.
For the final quarter of the game Whitharral would be able to outscore Borden 19-16, but it would be too late as the Lady Coyotes big first quarter propelled them to the victory in playoffs.
Smith led the team in scoring on the night with 22 points, 12 of her points coming from inside the arch.
Madi Chavez had another 10 points, Avery McCain had nine, Tyler Parkinson had seven, Rylee Kristinek had six and Kalyn Bates had five in the teams loss.
The Whitharral Lady Panthers had a great season and finished off with a 26-6 record on the year.
