Lobos take tiebreaker win over Sweetwater

The Levelland Lobos took on the Sweetwater Mustangs this past Friday in UIL high school boys basketball play in Lamesa for the district tiebreaker to get second seed where Levelland won 78-71.

The first quarter of the game started off with both teams tying the game with 24 points for both teams going into the second quarter.

For the second quarter of the game, Levelland would be able to get 17 points to fall for them while they only allowed 13 points taking the four point lead at the halftime break.

Going into the third quarter of the game the Lobos were able to outscore the Mustangs 18-17 holding the close lead going into the fourth quarter of play.

For the final quarter of the game Levelland was able to hold onto the lead as they were able to get 19 points to go while allowing only 17 points to take the district tiebreaker and get the second seed, sitting behind Estacado.

Eryk Jones led the team in scoring for the night with 25 points, nine of his points coming from beyond the arch.

Jayden Castillo and Sean Landrum both finished in double digits with Castillo having 19 points and Landrum finishing with 16 throughout the night.

Travion Holland had nine, Ozzie Salano had five and Ethan Salazar and Elijah Jordan both finished with two points a piece in the teams win.

Levelland shot the ball from the field for 53% while going for 55% from long range in the night. From the charity stripe the team shot for 47% hitting 8-for-17 in the game.

Levelland finishes at 17-17 on the season while going 8-3 in district play.

Levelland faced off against the Mineral Wells this past Tuesday at Stamford High School for their bi-district round matchup.
