The Morton Indians took on the Grady Wildcats this past Friday for their bi-district matchup in basketball playoffs where the team won 54-47.
The first quarter of the game started off with the Indians taking a three point lead as thtey outscored the Wildcats 14-11 with 10 of the Indians points coming from inside the arch.
For the second quarter of the game Grady would take control of the game as they had 13 points fall for them while Morton was only able to get seven to go for them.
The score at the end of the halftime break was Grady leading 24-21 against Morton.
Leading the Morton Indians in scoring at the half was E.J. Rivas who had seven points, four of them coming from inside the paint.
Going into the third quarter of the game, Morton would wake up as they had 17 points fall for them while they held Grady to eight points going into the fourth quarter. Morton was able to get nine of their 17 points from deep range. The score going into the fourth was Morton leading 38-32. For the final quarter of the game, although it was close to the very end Morton was able to hold onto the game and take their first playoff win against the Wildcats.
Alex Lopez led the team in scoring with 26 points on the night, 13 of his points coming from the third quarter of play.
Rivas finished with 16 points on the night, Cade Lyon had four, Lane Lyon had three, both Andres Bejarano and Brayden Villarreal had two points a piece and Jaeden Alvarado had one point in the teams playoff win.
The Indians played against the Lorenzo Hornets this past Friday with the time and place TBD at the time of this writing.
