Sundown ends season in Big Spring

The Sundown Roughettes took on the Christoval Lady Cougars this past Friday in Big Spring where they lost 48-44 in a close one.

The first quarter of the game started off with Sundown trailing 12-6 due to Christoval’s ability to drive into the paint at will.

For the second quarter of the game Sundown was able to get nine points to fall for them before the half, but their defense let up 19 more points to the Lady Cougars falling by even more points at the half.

The score at the halftime break was Sundown trailing 3115.

Leading the Roughettes in scoring at the half was Aria Hogan who had five points, three from long range.

Going into the third quarter of the game Sundown would find a rhythm scoring as they outscored the Lady Cougars 15-6 to cut the deficit and trail by only seven heading into the fourth quarter. The score at the end of the third was Christoval leading 37-30.

For the final quarter of the game Sundown was able to rack up 14 points in the end while holding the Lady Cougars to just 11. Although they were able to outdo them in the second half, the Lady Cougars were able to hold on and take the area win in basketball playoffs.

Allie McCormick led the Roughettes in scoring as she had 24 points, being the only player on the team to finish in double digits.

Hannah Holdman had another six points, Hogan and Camry Jourden both finished with five points a piece and Kyndel Taggart had four in the teams playoff loss.

Sundown finished their season with a 20-15 record while finishing second in district play.
