Ropes Eagles split series this past Friday

The Ropes Eagles went 1-1 this past Friday as they played against the Hawley Bearcats and Coahoma Bulldogs in UIL Baseball Action.

Hawley 4, Ropes 0

For the Eagles first game of the Friday they faced off against Hawley where they struggled to keep up with the Bearcats.

Hawley was able to get on the board first at the top of the second as they hit a fly ball to right field that earned them a run and take the lead 1-0 at the bottom of the second.

Ropes held the Bearcats in check for most of the game until an error at the top of the fifth was able to give Hawley another run and put the score at 2-0.

Hawley was able to keep it going as they got another two runs at the top of the sixth inning from another error and fielder’s choice in the end.

Pitching for the Eagles was Bode Franklin as he went for six innings, surrendering four runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out five and walking four.

Brayden Hogg and Mason Marmolejo each earned one hit for the Ropes Eagles.

Ropes 13, Coahoma 2

Although it was a rough first game for the Eagles they were able to bounce back and dominate their second game against the Coahoma Bulldogs 13-2.

Ropes was able to get on the board first in the top of the first due to two singles. The Eagles first got on the board when Braxxin Partington singled, scoring one run.

The Eagles added onto their early lead in the top of the second after Hayden Torres singled, the Coahoma Bulldogs committed an error, Brady Bryan singled and Elijah Flores hit into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run putting the game at 7-1 at the end of the second inning.

Ropes was able to keep pouring it on as they scored five runs on three hits at the top of the third inning. Kade Franklin drew a walk, scoring one run, Bryan drew a walk, scoring one run, Flores drew a walk with another scored run and Garret Morgan singled, scoring two runs for the Eagles.

Pitching for the Ropes Eagles was Torres as he gave up zero hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking four. Cutter Stumbo subbed in for relief for the Eagles.

The Eagles tallied 10 hits in the game with Torres and Marmolejo each collecting two hits for Ropes. Franklin led Ropes with three runs batted in.

Partington led the Eagles with two walks in their contest.

The team also had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks on the game.

The Ropes Eagles progressed to 9-3 on the season as they played against Abernathy this past Saturday and Seagraves this Tuesday for their district matchup as the visiting team.
