Ropes take down Antelopes at home

The Ropes Eagles took on the Abernathy Antelopes this past Saturday for UIL Nondistrict High School Baseball where the Eagles won 6-4 at home.

Ropes got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Mason Marmolejo singled a ground ball to left field, he advanced to second on error while Branson Simental scored on the same error. Afterwards Kade Franklin hit a ground ball and reached on an error while Marmolejo scored the Eagles second run in the first inning. It wasn’t all as Brayden Hogg was hit by the pitch while Madduz Sierra ran it in for Ropes once more, Ropes held the 3-0 lead at the bottom of the first.

Ropes was able to get another run on the board after Kade Franklin grounds into fielder’s choice as Marmolejo scores to put the score at 4-0 with the Eagles leading.

Abernathy finally was able to get onto the board at the top of the third inning as the batter hit a ground ball to center field to get the runner home, the Eagles still held the 4-1 lead at the top of the third inning.

For the start of the bottom of the third inning it was Brayden Hogg that would be able to hit a single off of a fly ball that went into right field, afterwards Cason Kucel singled on a line drive to get Elijah Flores to run it in and get Hogg on third base and get the team the 5-1 lead. It wasn’t the end as Cutter Stumbo got a double of of a ground ball to left field to send in Hogg and put their lead up to 6-1.

Abernathy was able to get another three runs on the final two innings but it wasn’t enough as Ropes would take the win 6-4.

Kade Franklin earned the win for Ropes, he gave up seven hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking two.

Braxxin Partington, Brady Bryan, Hogg, Marmolejo, Kucel and Stumbo each collected one hit for the Eagles. Franklin drove the middle of the lineup, leading Ropes with two runs batted in.

Ropes progresses to 10-3 on the season with their next couple of games going up against the Sundown Roughnecks this past Friday and Monday as the visiting team at 5 p.m. to start district play.
