Ropes takes down Sundown in close game

The Ropes Eagles hosted the Sundown Roughnecks this past Thursday for UIL Baseball Action in district play where the Eagles won 4-3.

The Roughnecks were the first team to break their first run at the top of the fifth inning as they had three runs go for them with the first run coming off of a walk with bases loaded to send Isaac Lopez home. That wasn’t the end as Jaxon Rodriguez hit a single off of a ground ball to second base that would get Jayson Martinez and Landry Farrar home to put the game at 3-0 with Sundown leading.

Ropes was able to get on the board at the bottom of the fifth off of a infield fly where Branson Simental ran it in and Mason Marmolejo advanced to second. That would be it for Ropes as they cut the lead down to 3-1.

At the bottom of the sixth is where the Eagles were able to take control of the game getting three runs to go for them. Brayden Hogg scored after tagging up after Bode Franklin hit a fly out to right field. After that Simental for Ropes hit a double on a line drive to left field to send Brady Bryan home to put the game at 3-3. Ropes would be able to get one more run from a single by Marmolejo hit a ground ball to third to send in Cutter Stumbo home and give Ropes the lead.

Bode Franklin earned the win for Ropes as he allowed only one hit and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out three and walking two. Marmolejo started on the mound for the Eagles as he surrendered zero hits and three runs over four and two-third innings, striking out nine and walking three.

Isaac Lopez took the loss for the Roughnecks as he went one inning allowing one run (zero earned) on one hit striking out none and walking one. Rayden Flores started the team off for the Sundown Roughnecks as he surrendered four hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out six and walking three.

Bryan, Marmolejo, Hogg and Simental each collected one hit for the Eagles. Marmolejo, Simental and Franklin each drove in one run for the Eagles as well.

Rodriguez for Sundown drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Roughnecks with two runs batted in. Hunter Clark, Rian Rose and Rodriguez each collected one hit for Sundown.
