The Ropes Eagles and Sundown Roughnecks faced off again this past Tuesday to finish off their series where Ropes was able to sweep them by winning 10-0 the second time around.
It was a quite game until the top of the fourth inning when Ropes was able to get three runs after Cutter Stumbo grounded out scoring one run and Elijah Flores singled scoring two runs for the team making the score 3-0.
Brayden Hogg popped out to the first baseman Isaac Lopez but that would leave Mason Marmolejo and Braxxin Partington to get two more runs in to make the score 5-0. The Eagles weren’t done though as they had Cutter Stumbo hit a double to center field that sent in Rayden Flores and Brady Bryan to make the score 7-0 at the top of the fifth.
Ropes would get their final runs of the game come from the top of the sixth with Partington hitting a double to center field letting Marmolejo score. The other two runners that brought it in for Ropes was Partington and Kade Franklin off of errors.
Bode Franklin earned the win for the Ropes Eagles as he let up two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out six and walking six.
Jaxon Rodriguez took the loss for the Sundown Roughnecks as he went four and one-third innings, giving up seven runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking two.
Flores and Stumbo were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Eagles. Ropes didn’t commit a single error in the field. Bryan had the most chances in the field with seven.
For Sundown it was Caleb Clausen and Rodriguez that was a tough duo to handle as they each collected one hit for Sundown. Jayson Martinez led Sundown with two walks. The team had a strong eye for the ball as they collected six walk throughout the game.
Ropes progresses to 12-3 on the season while staying undefeated in district play. The team faced off against Tahoka this past Saturday and again this upcoming Tuesday at home at 4 p.m. for district play.
For the Sundown Roughnecks the fall to 4-6 on the season as they faced off against the Levelland Lobos this past Saturday as the visiting team at 1 p.m.
