Roughettes dominate Lockney Lady Horns, 18-0

The Sundown Roughettes took on the Lockney Lady Horns this past Tuesday in UIL Softball District play where the Roughettes won 18-0 through three innings.

Ariel Hernandez for the Roughettes hit a grand slam to right field to force the run rule.

From the jump it was all Sundown as they got 10 runs in the first innings. Breigh Gregory homered to center field, scoring two runs, Araceli Ibarra singled, scoring two runs, Ericka Posadas singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Emry Jourden tripled, scoring two runs and Brynly Gregory hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs.

Eight more runs crossed the plate for the Roughettes in the third innings to extend their lead to 18-0. An error scored two runs, Posadas drew a walk, scoring one run, Allie McCormick drew a walk, scoring one run and Hernandez hit a grand slam to right field.

Gregory stepped in the circle for the Roughetets as she surrendered one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out seven and walking none.

Sundown tallied 10 hits in the game. Gregory and Ibarra each collected two hits for the Roughettes. Destiny Garza led Sundown with two walks. Overall the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Jourden and Garza each stole multiple bases for the Roughettes. The Roughettes stole four bases throughout their contest. The team also didn’t commit a single error, Gregory had the most chances in the field with seven.

Sundown Roughettes progress to 18-3-1 on the season while remaining undefeated in district play with a 5-0 record. The Roughettes played against the Lockney Lady Horns this past Saturday for their second matchup against the team as the visiting team at 11 a.m.
