The Ropes Eagles took on the Tahoka Bulldogs as the visiting team this past Saturday for UIL District Baseball play where the Eagles won 14-2.
The Ropes Eagles were the first on the board in the first inning after Braxxin Partington stole home.
The Eagles weren’t done their as they scored eight runs on four hits in the top of the second innings. Branson Simental was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Mason Marmolejo drew a walk, scoring one run, Partington drew a walk, scoring one run, Kade Franklin doubled, scoring two runs, one run scored on another play and Rayden Flores drew a walk, scoring one run. Ropes held the 9-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
Tahoka was finally able to answer back with two of their own runs in the bottom of the second after one batter was walked and another was hit by the pitch.
Ropes added another three runs in the top of the fourth on two hits. Flores singled, scoring one run, and Colton Mortensen hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs. The score sat at 12-2 for the Eagles.
The Eagles got their last two runs of the game in the top of the fifth when Marmolejo scored after tagging up and Partington scored off of a ground out by Maddux Sierra putting the game out of reach 14-2 giving Ropes the district win.
Franklin was on fire on the mound as he struck out 10 batters, giving up two runs over five innings while walking four. Franklin drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Eagles with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-4 on the day. Mortensen and Flores were a force together on the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Eagles while hitting back-toback. Partington stole two bases. The Eagles didn’t commit a single error. Brady Bryan had the most chances in the field with 11.
The Ropes Eagles progress to 13-3 on the season as they faced off against Tahoka for the second time this past Tuesday at home for their district matchup.
